Important facts that you need to understand before you adopt a new dog.

We all know that information about the pet that we desire can help us a lot in deciding on whether or not to get that dog. The dissimilarities in behavior and character among dog types can be compared to differences in people. Knowing the right match between the dog breed and the holder or family is the key to success in taking a dog into your residence.

There are many varieties that are naturally introduced to the dog world as well as those produced explicitly by cross-breeding or breeding 2 dissimilar dogs, like Labradoodle which is a cross breed of a Labrador Retriever and a Poodle.

You should also consider what kind of dog your family can take care. A house with a large back yard can be enough room for a big dog breed to run and also play.

Do you wish for a dog that is strong, yet cute and good with kids? Are you hoping of getting a guard dog for your home or business? Do you want to grow a show dog to enter competitions?

Maybe you just want to have a loyal companion, petite enough to be calm in your home and calm enough to sit with your family and have fun? These are some concerns you should think about as you look for the right type of pet.

Are you living alone in your home? Single person who works long hours then choose a dog breed that can deal with many alone time at home – possibly dog breed that like toys and entertains himself.

For a family with little children a medium to large-size dog is more appropriate since it is calm by nature and also patient with children. For small children, their pet dog is like a toy – your children do not understand it's a living; breathing creatures that can get hurt by rough housing.

There are breeds that are not patient with the antics of your small children, but would be great with grown-up kids. A dog for older people is a breed that’s calm.

Another 2 groups of dogs are those that shed and those that do not shed. Shedding is a huge problem of dog owners. Dog fur clings to furniture, clothing as well as people who sit anywhere in the house. Don’t be fooled by short haired dogs because they can shed, too. Classification of shedding can be grouped or divided into barely sheds, seasonal only shedding or constant shedding.

Height and weight are considered when it comes to dog size. Smaller dogs weigh less than 10 pounds, medium dogs weigh 11-25 pounds, large dogs weigh 26-50 pounds and extra large dogs weight 51-80 pounds. There are also extremely large dogs like Mastiffs and St. Bernard that can reach up to 100-180 pounds. Now you see why size is also a big factor in choosing the right dog for you and your family.

Can your furniture stand that much weight of dog? When picking a breed always remember to base your decision on the size the breed will grow to as an adult dog and not on the appearance of the puppy.

Don’t not forget that big dogs are also big eaters. If you bring home a Mastiff, you may need a second work just to pay for the food.

Your dog’s health care is another important consideration. There are breeds that need more care than other breeds. Dogs like poodles or show dogs may spend a little more time in grooming centers than you do. There are also dogs that need weekly (or even daily) grooming to keep their coats from tangles and to maintain good physical health. Don’t forget to research about the dog breed that you want. Check the dog breed’s character, size, and grooming requirements before you make any decision. Researching those important information will surely save you a lot of time and avoid any problem in taking care of the dog. It is only fair to the dog you choose that you be prepared to care for the dog’s basic needs, plus give the love and attention that only you can give.
